There are bit torrent sites out there that have Italian audiobooks and some probably have workbooks. I learned Latin in highschool and can understand it spoken, for the most part, but can’t communicate much into it… but, hey, everyone speaks English, right? *LOL*

It’s almost impossible to learn Italian on web sites, or books. The problem with Italian is:
1) It’s very irregular, so its grammar is very complicated
2) People in Italy don’t speak as in the audio books or web sites. Italy is full of different dialects and accents, so it would be hard for you to understand actual Italians talking.
I suggest you to find a native-speaker, someone who can introduce you to Italian in a spoken way. Learning Italian with books is pretty useless. However, if you want to learn the language and you don’t have anyone who can help you, find an Italian class or chat with Italian people on the Internet, with the support of a complex grammar book and a dictionary.

As a language student, I would say that it’s unlikely you’ll be able to learn a language just from a website. You need to learn pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, and websites only offer limited help with these. Listening to a recording of someone saying a word isn’t the same as that person being there in the room with you. There may well be grammar points that you’re unsure of, and a website can’t answer your questions or explain something in a different way for you so that you understand it better. Learning from a website also means that you’ll have to have a lot of motivation to keep learning. In the beginning it’s easy because you’re willing to learn, but after a while, especially when you’re trying to get your head around grammar rules, it gets monotonous and you may find yourself gradually putting off working on the language in favour of other hobbies. If you truely intend to learn the language properly, I’d recommend that you enrol on a course at your local higher education college (many of them offer evening classes), or even university if you’re really serious about it. That way, you’ll have a teacher/lecturer who can guide you and answer your questions, you’ll have a routine because you’ll have a timetable for your classes, and (hopefully) there’ll be a group of you learning the language, so you can motivate each other. This also makes it a social activity, which, obviously, is much more interesting than sitting at home looking at a computer screen, and so you’ll be more likely to keep it up.
Learning a language properly isn’t a matter of downloading a file and then you’re perfect. It won’t happen overnight. It often takes years to become fluent. Saying that, there’s no reason why you can’t do it if you’re serious about it and approach it in the right way.
